Course Description


 

ACT Prep:  A course that helps prepare students for the ACT test.

 

Advanced Nutrition: 

Credential: Business of Retail & Customer Service 

In this course, you will learn about healthy eating, what micronutrients are and the effects on the body, and how to improve and prevent malnutrition. 

 

Nutrition & Food:   

Credential: Business of Retail & Customer Service

This course develops your knowledge of the science of nutrients and their effects, as well as the social factors which influence nutrition.

 

Agriculture I - Universal Course &  Agriculture II

Credential: NCCER (National Center for Construction Education & Research)

These courses provide students with basic knowledge of agriculture and its history, and the science applications in agriculture. This course includes units in soil science, plant science, basic carpentry, and food science technology.  

 

Beginning Band:  This course is open to students who do not play a musical instrument. Students will be instructed

in music and instruments. Students will receive grades based on their attendance, scheduled performances, participation, and weekly quizzes.  

 

Beginning choir:  This class is composed of  non-auditioned mixed students. Students will be given the opportunity

to learn music in a variety of styles and perform what has been practiced at least once a semester. They will be

taught basic music theory, sight-reading, rhythmic exercises, vocal technique, concert etiquette, and vocal

repertoire containing two to three parts.

 

Digital Image & Motion Graphics (LSU)  Universal Course 

Credential: Adobe Certified Professional

Statewide Basic - Photoshop, Illustrator or In Design

             Statewide Advanced - Visual Design

Is composed of picture elements, also known as pixels, each with finite, discrete quantities of numeric

representation for its intensity or gray level that is an output from its two-dimensional functions fed as input by

its spatial coordinates denoted with x, y, on the x - axis and y - axis…

 

Engineering Design & Development Drafting (LSU) - Grades 11 - 12 

Credential: AutoDesk Inventor Certified User      

Prerequisites: “C” or better in Math and must be enrolled in a Geometry or higher mathematics course. 

             The primary focus of this courses is to provide students with the skills necessary to understand and 

interpret engineering drawings and working sketches.  Students will learn to construct 3D models and

engineering drawings using computer-aided design.  The course will culminate with a final project where

students will work in teams to identify a problem, design a unique solution, create a prototype. 

 

Entrepreneurship I  Universal Course  

Credential: Micro-Enterprise Regional

The objective of the Regional Micro-Enterprise Credential is to provide Louisiana students with the fundamental

skills and knowledge they need to be effective small business employees and small business owners.

The Regional Micro-Enterprise Credential will help students achieve four critical objectives: 1) master critical workplace behaviors and communication skills, 2)  learn how to access credit, and the different types of credit

3) learn how to process critical small business forms and paperwork, and 4) learn essential financial

concepts and terms, in the “language of business”, something that will help them no matter what type of

employment they seek after high school.

 

Entre II Ad Micro Universal Course

Credential: Micro-Enterprise Statewide

Students will be able to analyze whether a business is “doable” and then create a recommendation presentation.  Students will also show mastery of key concepts in managing the talent that works in a business start-up, by practicing networking skills and the ability to interact effectively.  

 

Family and Consumer Science I & II (FCS)

Credential: Business of Retail

This course includes an overview of family and consumer science topics, including: personal development, food and nutrition, personal and family finance, housing and resource management, clothing selection, care and repair,  family relations, and child development.   

 

First Responder Grades 11 - 12  Universal Course

Credential: CPR/EMR

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system (EMS). This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide pre-hospital lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher level personnel at the scene and during transport. Emergency Medical Responders perform basic interventions with minimal equipment. By the end of the course, students who successfully complete the course will have obtained a Basic Life Support Provider License and a Emergency Medical Responder Certification. 

 

Introduction to Business Computer App (IBCA) Universal Course 

Credential: Microsoft Office Specialist - (Access - Word - Powerpoint & Excel)

Covers the basics of computer hardware, software, and networking and helps students develop basic skills in using Windows and Microsoft Office.  This is a new channel for communication in an organization by making communication, resources and tools more mobile friendly and accessible to all employees.  More work is being done outside of the nine to five office today, so these tools often come equipped with event calendars, alerts, sharing texts and video messages to and from leadership. Effective business communication is how employees and management interact with each other to share facts and ideas.  It helps employers and employees convey information in the workplace, like active listening, negotiation and networking. 

 

Introduction to Engineer Design & Development  (DE - LSU) (STEM)

This course allows students to explore primary concentrations in engineering through listening to guest speakers, working on interactive team projects, and presenting their project results to the class. 

 

Introduction To Remote Control Vehicles (Drones)(LSU - STEM) 

Credential: FAA Part 107: Small Unmanned Aircraft

Prerequisites: Should be taken after previous engineering courses are completed or with instructor’s permission.

Robotics  is a senior-level high school engineering course meant to be taken in a progression following Introduction to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, and Engineering Design & Development. This course is focused on preparing students to receive a series of micro-credentials directly related to the field of robotics engineering.  The emphasis is on learning through hands-on, testing, analysis, and project design; each student is responsible for developing a portfolio of original work for each credential. 

 

JAG I, II, III, IV (Jobs for America’s Graduates)  Universal Course

The nation’s largest dropout prevention and recovery program serving youth 12-21 years of age.. JAG delivers a unique set of services for students with major obstacles to help them, early experiences in foundational career skills and career awareness. Early experiences in foundational career skills and career awareness.  JAG helps young people of truly great promise succeed both in school and on-the-job, leading to a productive and rewarding career. 

Law Studies  Universal Course  

In this course students will study the following: the legal system, criminal law, juvenile justice, torts (civil

lawsuits), and individual rights and liberties.

 

Robotics (LSU) 

This class teaches the design, analysys, application and operation of Robots.  Students will enhance their

critical thinking and creativity skills, by encouraging them to think outside the box and come up with original

ideas.  Students will work in teams to collaborate with others and share ideas to investigate, create and test

best possible solutions.  It helps students develop one of their basic cognitive skills of mathematical thinking:

Computational thinking (the mental processes we use to solve problems of various kinds through an orderly

sequence of actions).

 

Sound Design  

The art of creating an overall sonic palette of art, especially media like film, Tv shows, podcasts, live theater,

commercials and podcasts.  It can also apply to visual art forms and music recordings that incorporate sound

effects.

 

Speech I  Universal Course  

Speech is the study of the basic principles and techniques of effective oral communication.  Students will learn

to communicate their ideas using verbal, written and visual techniques to help lessen speaker anxiety.  Students

will use their voices and articulation techniques to communicate emotional energy through words.

 

Theater  

It is an interdisciplinary form of learning that encompasses dramatic interpretation, writing, multimedia

production and technical skills through the artistic processes of creating, performing, responding and

connecting.  It helps students develop prosocial behaviors and problem-solving and creative thinking skills.

These competencies are key to developing both strong peer relationships and empathy to and for others.  It

envelops all other forms of art, including music, dance, fine art, film and visual art.  It teaches essential soft 

skills that foster empathy and effective interactions with others, which aids in human development regardless of

the career path one chooses to pursue.

 

Personal Finance  Universal Course  

This class provides best practices in planning a personal/family budget, setting sound financial goals and how 

to avoid negative financial consequences.  It includes information about five areas critical to shaping your

personal/family financial planning, they are: income, spending, saving, investing and protection.

WorkKeys is an assessment of practical skills that measures and certifies the essential skills needed for

success in jobs across industries and occupations.  Those skills are valued and sought after by employees.

These credentials will validate work readiness skills and scores can be put on resumes, applications to

community/technical college and job applications.  It can be taken as many times as you want.
